
Founded
The Central Institute of English (CIE) was established in 1958 to improve the standards of teaching English in the country.
The Institute was the brainchild of the first Prime Minster of india, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Location
The Institute is next to Arts College, Osmania University.
Size
The Institute houses approximately 25 buildings on 32 acres of land

1958: CIE is born
1963: first radio programmes for learners and teachers of English are broadcast.
1972: CIE becomes CIEFL
1973: Shillong (Regional Centre) campus is established
1974: Centre for Distance Education is set up.
1977: Publications Unit is established
1979: Lucknow Centre is inaugurated
1984: EMRC is set up
2000: M.A programmes in English are introduced
2006 December: CIEFL becomes a Central University.
2007 August: CIEFL becomes English and Foreign Languages University.
