Languaging - A Journal of Language Teaching and Language Studies
Aims and Scope
Languaging is a biannual, double-blind peer-reviewed journal that provides a forum for critical engagement with issues in English language education, applied linguistics, and related fields. The journal aims to support research that questions traditional ideas and highlights teaching and research methods that are sensitive to context, inclusive, and socially aware. It especially welcomes work that speaks to the multilingual realities, pedagogical challenges, and educational innovations of the Global South. Languaging values interdisciplinary inquiry and encourages contributions that explore the intersections of language, identity, pedagogy, and power.
The journal invites original research articles, theoretical papers, literature reviews, book reviews, interviews, and dissemination-based pieces from scholars, educators, and practitioner-researchers. It is committed to publishing work that engages with multilingualism, critical pedagogy, translanguaging, bilingual education, sociolinguistic diversity, teacher development, language assessment, and the integration of technology in language learning. Languaging embraces a broad and inclusive understanding of language education that reflects the diverse linguistic, cultural, and educational contexts in which English is taught and learned.
History
The School of English Language Education at the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, first launched Languaging in print form in 2011. From its inception, the journal aimed to provide an interdisciplinary platform for examining language learning as a dynamic, situated practice. Between 2011 and 2020, Languaging regularly published print issues featuring contributions from scholars across India and beyond. Institutional disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily paused publication. In 2025, the journal will return with a renewed focus, updated editorial and ethical standards, and a commitment to open-access digital dissemination, while continuing its print publication tradition.
