Brief bio note: Dr. Sanjay Kumar has been teaching French Drama and Contemporary Writings at Department of French and Francophone Studies for the last thirteen years. He has a doctorate in Swiss French Literature from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Dr. Kumar has supervised till now five PhD theses and two research scholars are working with him at present. Besides, he has presented more than twenty-five papers in different national and international conferences. He has published nine books and twenty-three research articles in French, English and Hindi. He has also translated three French novels into Hindi. In 2022, he published a French translation of the Hindi short story of Uday Prakash, “Tirichh”. Kahin Tum Bhatak Na Jao, his translation of the Nobel laureate Patrick Modiano’s novel was shortlisted for Romain Rolland Prize given by the French government to best translators into Indian languages. Along with his colleagues, he is the founder-editor of a peer-reviewed French journal Réflexions. He has delivered around twenty-five invited lectures in different universities all over the country including two for the UGC-HRDC. His latest lecture was “Exploring Social Class in Annie Ernaux”.
Thrust areas of interest and research: Dr. Sanjay Kumar has been presenting papers and publishing in the area of French writings on India and specially on the Revolt of 1857. He specializes in Swiss French literature and has supervised two theses in this field. He has been teaching French and Francophone literature. He has keen interest in Greek drama and philosophy and has delivered several lectures in this area. Of late, he has been exploring the contemporary writings in French and cinema.
